Traffic counting in Kibworth

We are creating a community initiative to gather real-time traffic data for Kibworth over a period of at least 12 months starting in mid-2024. The goal is to gain a better insight into the traffic flows and transport modes in and through Kibworth. The data we gather should provide interesting insights and inform further actions and interventions that may be needed. Any improvements will require funding which in turn require strong evidence.

We are now asking for your help with this.

What is Telraam and how does it work?

Telraam is the name of a simple sensor that can be mounted on a first floor window to get high quality, continuous and real-time traffic data in collaboration with local residents.

Together with Telraam and some engaged individuals such as yourself, we want to map the traffic in Kibworth using a total of 6 Telraam sensors over a period of at least 10-12 months. The recorded data is immediately visible and accessible by anyone.

Telraam provides the technology and support. You could provide a first floor window on which a Telraam sensor can be hung. Thanks to this device, we can find out how many cars, heavy traffic, cyclists and pedestrians pass through your street.

In addition, the device can tell us the direction of traffic and even approximate speeds. Here's an example of a street in Birmingham

How can you help?

Specifically, we are looking for 6 residents who are willing to hang a Telraam sensor in a suitable first floor window.

Does your home have a window on the first or second floor with an unobstructed view (no trees or other obstacles that obstruct the view) at a right angle to the road? Then apply now.

When you register via the contact form, you are also prompted to send a photo of the location - a view from your window. This allows Telraam to assess whether or not your window is suitable for a good position of the traffic sensor.

We're particularly looking for suitable properties that overlook High Street / Fleckney Road, New Road, Station Street / Church Road, Smeeton Road and the A6.

If your property is not suitable or you live on a different street then you can still join and think along with us about the data that is being gathered and what actions and measures are needed.
