Telraam’s Year in Review. Reflecting on 2024 and Setting Our Sights on 2025

Insights • Kris Vanherle 10 January 2025

With 2024 behind us, we at Telraam are taking a moment to reflect on the past year and look ahead to exciting opportunities in 2025. This blogpost is about some of the highlights from 2024 and what’s on the horizon for 2025.

2024: A Year of Expansion and Exploration

The past year can be characterized by exploration, with lots of new small-scale pilots and, interestingly, also using the Telraam sensor for new applications we didn’t expect. A cool example is the use of Telraam sensors to monitor traffic around the Euro 2024 matches in Düsseldorf (check the data here and here). Crowd-flow insights for the purpose of enhancing event traffic management and safety is a new use case we didn’t really think about for Telraam when we started.

Additionally, we collaborated with universities who aim to use Telraam as an educational tool, empowering students to learn about data collection, urban mobility, and sensor technology in a hands-on way. It’s been inspiring to see our tools spark curiosity and innovation among the next generation. Similarly, in the now-completed European project COMPAIR, our technology was deployed in various locations, not infrequently thanks to the efforts of young people.

2024 was also a year of firsts, with first sensor installations in new countries, including Japan, Greece, Australia, and even Iceland. We’re really proud to see our sensors finding their way all around the world which basically confirms that no matter where they are in the world, citizens feel a need to monitor traffic.

But it wasn’t just new additions in 2024. Some of our clients and partners who’ve been working with Telraam for some time, are expanding their local network and are getting noticed with their local projects, gaining recognition in places like Châteaubourg (France) and Ružomberok (Slovakia).

To conclude our 2024 reflection, last year also saw the testing of what we’ve affectionately named our new Telraam S2 Outdoor  model. While still in its early stages, this new model is now available for professional clients and represents a significant step toward extending Telraam’s capabilities and improving data collection in a wider range of environments, as here at the gate of a nature reserve near Utrecht. Watch this space for updates as we further refine and polish this innovation.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we step into 2025, we’re ready to build on the momentum of the past year. For this year, these will be our 2 main focus points:

Continuous Development of Sensors and Platform

In 2025, we will focus on enhancing our sensors and platform. Whether it’s refining hardware, optimizing software, or integrating user feedback to improve the dashboard, we’re keen to capitalize on new technology trends.

We’re also excited to start new research projects, like X-Cite (funded by the Horizon Europe programme). These initiatives allow us to try new things, to explore what’s possible and develop new features. Stay tuned for updates as these projects take shape.

Scaling Internationally

With Telraam now active in more countries than ever, scaling internationally is a priority for 2025. We’ve done a lot of new pilots in 2024, but in 2025 we aim to consolidate our presence and convert these many pilots into true networks of Telraam sensors. As we’ve learned in 2024, counting traffic with Telraam fits more use cases than we can think of!
