2025 saw further growth of the Telraam network of sensors and our community of users. We recently passed the milestone of 3,000 active traffic counters, with our sensors now deployed in over 40 countries worldwide. That's a lot of citizens helping to make their streets safer and their cities smarter!
Our team also grew this year. We welcomed Prashanth as our new junior machine vision expert, strengthening our capabilities in AI-driven traffic detection. We're excited about the fresh perspectives and skills he brings to the team.
A highlight of the year was our participation in the Smart Deal competition at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. Pitching before a jury of international investors at one of the world's most prestigious smart city events, we came home with second place and €15,000 in prize money. It wonderfully validated that what we're building resonates internationally, even with something as “weird” as Telraam. We're enormously proud that our little company from Leuven can make waves on such a global stage.

Our Telraam S2 Outdoor model, which we introduced in 2024, has really taken off this year. We're finding new applications we hadn't anticipated, including tourism and event monitoring. A great example was our Telraam in Bagnères-de-Luchon, which hosted the 14th stage of the Tour de France. These creative use cases show that Telraam can deliver value far beyond traditional urban traffic counting. The success of the outdoor sensor comes with new challenges we’re still dealing with, but we’re learning fast!
With Telraam now active in more countries than ever, scaling internationally remains a key priority. This was the case in 2025 and will be the focus again in 2026. We're actively looking for people who want to bring Telraam to their country, particularly in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and North America. If you're passionate about citizen science, sustainable mobility, and better streets, and you'd like to become a Telraam ambassador in your region, we'd love to hear from you.
We'll be the first to admit that we've neglected our community of citizen scientists this year while the outdoor sensor was requiring much of our attention. In 2026, we want to correct that and put the people central again. We have some exciting things coming up to better engage with you and support the people who make Telraam possible.
And speaking of exciting developments: we've been working hard behind the scenes on some improvements that we think you'll really appreciate. Let's just say we've been listening to your feedback and addressing some of the limitations of the S2 sensor you've experienced. More on that in the year to come …
Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we're making cities smarter, safer, and more sustainable. Here's to making 2026 count, together!
